OUR APPROACH
Our Story
Open Arms Counseling®, LLC was founded in January 2014 in response to a growing need in the community. Many people wanted support but often held back because they didn’t feel fully accepted for who they were. To change that, the founders set out to create a safe and welcoming space—for both clients and counselors. That vision became Open Arms Counseling®. After all, true healing begins when you feel free to be yourself.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality care that honors the spiritual, cultural, and individual differences of our diverse communities. We strive to create a welcoming space with professional counselors who use proven therapeutic approaches. Our goal is to help clients achieve meaningful growth, reach their goals, and feel supported every step of the way.

Life often brings challenges, and at times they can feel overwhelming—leaving us lost, depressed, or unsure of what to do next. Taking the first step toward counseling isn’t easy, but my goal is to use the skills I’ve learned to help you face life’s difficulties and grow stronger through them.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy cooking, hiking, and spending time with my wife and our dogs. I’m passionate about helping people grow and would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.

Starting counseling can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to face it alone. I work to create an environment of empathy and trust as we explore both the challenges and the victories in your life. I bring my training in counseling, and you bring your lived experience. Together, we can find new ways of coping and create a path forward that feels right for you.
While counseling can sometimes feel heavy, I like to bring lighthearted energy when possible. Just as exercise feels easier when it’s enjoyable, therapy can feel more meaningful when we include moments of lightness, creativity, and celebration. Growth doesn’t have to be all heavy lifting—it can also come from small steps, meaningful conversations, and celebrating wins along the way.
Samantha Purcell, LPC

Outside of counseling, my husband and I love exploring Columbus’s food scene. I also enjoy reading, cooking, baking, and spending time outdoors. People are my passion, and I look forward to supporting you on your journey.
